About Buddies

My name is Buddies and I have the dubious pleasure of being the favourite companion of a Vet  I won’t mention his name because the curmudgeonly old fella wouldn’t like the idea of a spy in the surgery. 

My ability to comment on, and be understood by, both humans and animals is a direct result of my grandfather’s uncanny gift for languages. He was half Afghan Hound and spoke five local languages fluently and could make himself understood in half a dozen more. Unfortunately two of these were Panthalone and Kanthalone spoken only by two remote tribes in the Himalayas which died out because the predominantly men in the one could not find wives in the other as they were unable to understand each other. My grandfather referred to this as “tragic” and spoke about mounting an expedition in the hope of finding some living descendents. He could not get support this project from any friends including the best mountaineers in the business, the St Bernard. He died an unfulfilled dog.
