Bloat
Also known as gastric torsion, the main
symptom is a hard distended stomach. It develops quickly and requires immediate
surgery.
Bronchitis
Acute coughing caused by
inflammation in the lungs. It can be treated with medication from the vet.
Diabetes
Symptoms include excessive thirst and weight
loss. Treatments include specialist diets and daily insulin injections.
Epilepsy
Epileptic fits can usually be treated with
anti-convulsive drugs. During a fit there is little an owner can do except keep the dog away from anything that might harm him.
Hip dysplasia
An inherited deformity of
the hip joint that can cause lameness, a swinging gait or bunny hop. A variety of treatments
can be used, including surgery.
Kidney infection
Symptoms include more frequent urination and
can be treated with antibiotics.
Tonsillitis
Obvious signs include a hoarse bark, can be
treated with antibiotics
