| Eyes and ears |
Check your puppy's eyes and ears regularly
for these common conditions. They should be covered under your pet insurance
policy.
Eyes
If the eyes are red or have a sticky
discharge take them to the vet. It's probably conjunctivitis which is easily
treatable. Look out for excessive blinking or pawing at the eyes, it's usually
a sign of a problem that needs examination. In old age, your dog may develop
cataracts (a clouding in the eye), in which case he may need specialist
treatment.
Ears
The most common condition is excessive
ear-wax leading to temporary deafness. This is easily treated with special
fluid from your vet. Other common problems include infections caused by mites
or foreign objects. Look out for discharge or strange smells coming from the
ear. In most cases they can be treated simply.
