A walk needs to be part of your daily routine - keeping both of you fit and healthy. Should anything happen to your puppy, make sure he's covered with a comprehensive pet insurance policy.
Leads come in a variety of styles designed to meet the requirements of individual breeds. Larger more vigorous dogs need closer control, while smaller dogs just have to be shown the way. The frequency and length of the walk also depends on your particular puppy, check with your breeder or vet. Some dogs like Boarder Collies can walk for miles, while small breeds can get enough exercise playing around the house. Sprinters like Greyhounds will charge about for just ten minutes before flaking, but will want to do this several times a day.
Responsible dog owners always clean up behind them. Take a scoop and bag with you. You can be fined up to £1,000 if you leave their poo behind.
A walk is also an opportunity for your puppy to meet other dogs, so don't avoid them. Your puppy could easily misinterpret this as a threat.
