| Dealing with medicines |
Appropriate tender care can aid faster recovery. Remember to take out a good quality pet insurance policy that allows you to give him the best treatment and medicines.
Peace and warmth
If you live in the average lively household,
try and find a quiet draft free corner in which he can recover in peace. Keep
food simple to start with, you can also warm it up to make it more appealing.
Keep an eye on his liquid intake. If he's not drinking enough, spoon a little
water into the side of his mouth.
Administering medicines
Most dogs don't like taking medicines, so
here are a few tips to help. Don't forget to keep all medicines out of reach of
both children and pets.
If he's refusing to take a tablet, gently
place it at the back of his tongue, hold the mouth shut and stroke his throat.
If this doesn't work, hide it in a piece of cheese or ham. This usually does
the trick. Syringes normally make liquid medicines easy to administer, just
make sure you don't squirt it fast, or this could
cause him to choke.
