• Slowly build up the time you are away from your dog, so he gradually becomes more independent. Never leave him alone for a whole day.
• Don't make dramatic entrances and exits, keep it low key. Leave a radio on for company.
• Build in some exercise time before you leave, so he is content and perhaps even a little sleepy.
• Vary the routine you follow before leaving, so he doesn't start to see a pattern developing before you go and get anxious.
