Time critical
The quicker you get onto the task of finding him, the greater your chances of success. Check out the local area and ask neighbours to look into their sheds and garages. If this brings no news, call the agencies that handle strays – the police, local vets and re-homing centres. If he’s microchipped contact the relevant organization to report him missing.

Advertise
Produce a simple poster, with a colour photograph of your dog if possible, a description and your contact details. Laminate it so it’s reasonably weatherproof. Put up the poster wherever you can locally – notice boards etc. Local newspapers and community magazines may also be a cost-effective way of advertising.
