Ask around and get a personal recommendation, or look in the local paper. The council will also have a list. Consider using a registered petsitter if you don't like the idea of a cattery.

Inspect
Check out the cattery, look out for:

• heated accommodation
• full water bowls
• good exercise facilities
• happy guests

Check out the rules

• can you take your pet's bed and toys?
• who supplies the food?
• the number of staff?
• whether the facility is council approved?
• does it conform to Feline Advisory Bureau standards?
• what are the vaccination requirements?
