| How vets can help |
Your vet should play an important part in the life of your kitten - taking out a good pet insurance policy will help to pay for unplanned visits due to illness or accident.
One stop shop
A vet practice should be able to offer a comprehensive range of
products and services. Most will have at least one waiting room, separate
consulting rooms, an operating theatre and recovery room for pets coming out of
surgery.
Generally practices have two consultation periods, one in the morning and another in the afternoon. Appointments are usually required, but some practices will put time aside for open surgeries when patients can just turn up. Other times are used for surgery. Check with your individual practice for its policy regarding out-of-hours emergency cover and call out.
First visit
Arrange to visit the vet and register your kitten as soon as you can.
You will be required to provideinformation about you and your pet on
registration. The first examination should be a comprehensive check for general
well being, parasites and the start of a vaccination programme.
The vet will look for clean ears, eyes, mouth, check breathing, skin
and coat condition. The check up will also look out for any signs of poor diet.
