| Nursing a sick kitten |
Help your cat recover more quickly from illness and get yourself a good insurance policy to pay towards unexpected vet bills.
Feeding
Small, warm and frequent meals are the key to faster recovery. If she
refuses food, try giving liquids with a spoon. You can always liquidize food
and administer with a dropper or syringe.
Medicine
If possible crush tablets and put into her food. Alternatively ask
about pill-giving devices at your vets, or try opening your kitten's mouth
gently and placing the tablet on the back of her tongue. Then massage her
throat until the pill is swallowed. Liquid medicines can be administered using
a syringe.
Post-op collar
The vet may well put on an Elizabethan collar to stop your cat pulling
at stitches or cuts. This will also prevent her grooming, so you'll have to
step in and help.
Post-op care
A quiet warm room is essential. Give her plenty of time to recover
before returning to the normal regime.
